Why are there sometimes no “Clicks on broken links” when using third-party data providers?

Modified on: Mon, 31 Oct, 2022 at 10:14 AM

The number of "clicks on broken links" can be seen in the broken link table of the Siteimprove Quality Assurance module.

To capture “clicks on broken links” we examine how many people have navigated from the page where we detected the broken link onto the URL of the broken link.

Note: To have the 'clicks on broken links' data the analytics script must be executed on both the page with the link and the destination page/url.

Therefore, there can be several reasons for not showing data within the “clicks on broken links” column, including:

  • The broken link is an external link, (consequently, the analytics script is not executed on the broken page),
  • The script is not executed on both the referring page and the page that is broken,
    • This is the case if the broken link is to a document (e.g. PDF, Word, etc.) as analytics scripts cannot be executed on a document.
  • Users have not clicked the broken link in the period where we have detected it as broken.
