What is the PDF Remediation Agent

Summary

The agent will tag your content, fix headings and tables, set the document language, embed fonts, build bookmarks from your heading hierarchy, and mark the file as targeting PDF/UA-1 - so the PDF that goes back on your website is closer to compliant than the one you started with.

Availability

PDF remediation in Siteimprove requires access to the PDF Remediation Agent. If you do not see remediation options in your platform, your account may not have this feature enabled.

Overview

The PDF Remediation Agent is a Siteimprove feature that fixes accessibility issues in your PDFs for you. Instead of opening every PDF in a separate remediation tool, you select a PDF in Siteimprove, choose how you want the agent to work on it, and the agent applies the structural and content-level fixes that make the document usable for screen readers and other assistive technology.

• Remediate PDFs directly inside Siteimprove: no new tool that you need to be trained in.
• Reduce the manual work needed to make a PDF accessible.
• Apply consistent, repeatable fixes across every document you remediate.
• Get a PDF back with a clear list of any remaining items that still need human review.

Where do I find the PDF Remediation Agent?

You can access the PDF Remediation Agent directly in the platform: Accessibility > PDFs > PDF audit and PDF validate. Select a PDF in your list and choose Remediate. 

If you can’t see the feature, it is because your user role was custom-made by your Account Owner or Administrator.

They can grant PDF Remediation permissions to your user via Settings > Users > Roles.
