Why Am I Seeing Unwanted Domains in Siteimprove Analytics?
Summary
Unwanted domains appear in Analytics because of default domain tracking behavior, where subdomains and unmatched domains are automatically associated unless explicitly configured.
Overview
The purpose of this article is to explain how to configure your analytics sites, and what are options available when unwanted domains are reported on within your Analytics statistics.
Causes
- When a site is added, all subdomains containing the Siteimprove Analytics Script are automatically tracked
- Domains are associated with the closest matching configured site
- If no specific configuration exists, domains may be assigned by default
How Domain Assignment Works
Anything that has domain.com in the URL will be logged to this site unless a site with the specific subdomain has been added to your subscription.
If a page appears to match multiple sites, it will automatically be allocated to the one with the most specific URL match.
Resolution / What to Do
- Configure domain matches to properly assign traffic
- Use Site Configuration to refine tracking rules
- Ensure domains are correctly classified as internal or external
