Modified on: Tue, 21 Jul, 2026 at 3:05 PM

Answer

Use the troubleshooting guidance below to resolve common issues when running accessibility checks, navigating findings, working with sidebars, or reviewing results in the Siteimprove Accessibility for Designers.

Symptoms

You may encounter one of the following issues:

  • The check won't start
  • Only part of a multi-selection was checked
  • A finding won't navigate to its layer
  • Sidebar buttons are missing
  • You expected a check but didn't see it

Resolutions

The check won't start

Cause

You have not selected a supported object.

Resolution

Make sure you have selected a Frame, Component, or Group — not a single text layer or shape.

Only part of a multi-selection was checked

Cause

The plugin checks only the first selected layer.

Resolution

The plugin checks the first selected layer only. Select a single container to cover everything inside it.

A finding won't navigate to its layer

Cause

The layer may no longer exist.

Resolution

The layer may have been deleted since the check ran. Run the check again.

Sidebar buttons are missing

Cause

You may be working in a read-only mode.

Resolution

You are likely in Dev Mode, which is read-only. Switch to Design mode to add or edit sidebars.

You expected a check but didn't see it

Cause

The selected WCAG target or Best Practices setting may not include the check.

Resolution

Confirm your WCAG target in Settings includes that criterion, and that the Best Practices toggle is set as you expect.

Additional Information

The Siteimprove Accessibility for Designers can be configured to show results based on a specific WCAG version and conformance level. Settings can also be used to include or exclude advisory best-practice findings.
