How does confirming or dismissing a broken link impact my DCI Score?
The Digital Certainty Index® (DCI®) Score is a measure of the quality of your website, see “What is the Digital Certainty Index®?”
When you are managing broken links, you have options to Confirm or Dismiss a broken link. See “How to manage broken links”.
"Dismissed broken links" do not have a negative effect on your DCI score. "Confirmed broken links" and "Links to review" have the same weight when it comes to the DCI Score.
This table outlines how each of the link categories affects your DCI Score along with recommendations.
Category | Impact on DCI Score? | Recommendation |
---|---|---|
Confirmed broken links | Yes - As these links are broken, they will have a negative impact on your DCI score. | Address the issue in your content management system to improve your score. |
Links to review | Yes - As these links can be broken, they will have a negative impact on your DCI score. | Review and then address any confirmed broken links in your content management system to improve your score. |
Dismissed links | In some cases, the score will not be affected, but in others, the score will increase slightly. The change in score can be small and will be affected by other factors including the percentage of broken links on the site and the level of the page containing the broken link. | No action required. You have the option to ‘Undo’ decisions on dismissed links. |
